Mexican Snacks
Pubs in Mexico are called "Cantinas", those cantinas were sacred places for men long ago. They used to enjoy a nice beer, and the most delicious botanas, together with men's chat or a domino game. Because of Women Human Rights or just due to a Feminine Movement, or maybe because women didn't want to miss the delicatessen prepared there, the Cantinas had to open their doors to women.
I was too young to remember exactly the reason, but now men think that those places are not the same since women are allowed there. The funny thing is that they don't say if now they are better or not. I personally don't ask them to make it clear, I rather think they are right, because the Cantinas have to be funnier now, since we are allowed there.
In Chiapas, they are also called "Centros Botaneros" (slang) (Snack Centers), since the fame of their botanas. As beer is the common drink in those places, and with every beer you ask for, you are given a different botana, with three beers you eat very well. Of course, the price of the beer is not exactly cheap, but what you get with a beer pays what you pay for it.
Just a memory......
It is common to go to the market on weekends with the family, with all those flavors and aromas you get hungry. It is common to prepare just there a nice brunch, buying some tortillas, a Ranchero Cheese, a piece of Chicharron or some Carnitas (cooked pork meat) a delicious sauce, some Atlixco avocadoes and of course, your soda.
You may get a free table just there in the market, or a nice bench in the park nearby. At that moment, tacos are prepared in the most informal way, and they are so delicious..... This taco is commonly named "Taco Placero" since "plaza" is another Spanish word for market.
It is really nice to go shopping this way, isn't it? In this way, you will be always sure, that you will have help from your family to carry your heavy bags.
Thanks for sharing my memories....
